How I Work

I'm there to document your day as it naturally unfolds — the big moments, the quiet in-betweens, the nervous laughs, and everything you might have missed along the way.

I'll guide you when needed, but mostly I'm watching for the real stuff — the way it looked, the way it felt, and the people who made it yours.

About Daniel

Tauranga born, Bay of Plenty raised — behind the camera for over a decade.

By now you've gathered my name is Daniel and I photograph weddings for a living. I'm based in Tauranga, born and raised on this coastline, so I know how to make the most of it on your day. When I'm not behind the camera you'll find me on the beaches and trails around the Mount with my wife and two kids.

What began as a hobby became a career that's taken me across New Zealand, Australia, Vanuatu and beyond — well over 100 weddings in. But there's something special about shooting here in the Bay: the light, the landscapes, the laid-back energy. It all comes through in the photos.

My style is relaxed and natural — no awkward posing, no forced smiles. I'm here for the real moments: the laugh during the speeches, the look when you first see each other, the dance-floor chaos at the end of the night.

Kind Words

From couples I've photographed

Absolutely stunning engagement and wedding photos. Daniel put so much work into our day, and the memories the photos bring are priceless. We had some laughs along the way too — he was a pleasure to have around. Thank you Daniel!

Mr & Mrs Denning

Our wedding came to life in the photos Dan took. He seamlessly blended into the background while capturing the very best moments of the day. In years to come we'll look back and feel as if it was just yesterday. If you want a photographer who truly cares, Dan is the man!

Mr & Mrs Reynolds

We highly recommend Daniel Jay Photography. He simply followed us around the beach at sunset and took beautiful, natural photos. Professional, fun and easy to communicate with — he and his second shooter made the whole day stress-free. Our guests even commented on how talented they were. Thank you Daniel!
